1 Part Class

Artistic Expressions of Grief

Grief is a deeply personal, multifaceted experience—and so too are the ways we express it. This class explores the diverse role of art in the expression of grief. From dance and literature to tattoos and public memorials, we will examine how art becomes a powerful tool for navigating loss, honoring memory, and fostering healing. Whether grief stems from death or other significant life changes, creative expression offers opportunities to explore our own narratives and connect with new perspectives and, in many cases, new people.

Participants will learn how symbolic, abstract, and realistic representations can give voice to the inexpressible. We will also consider how grief-related art challenges societal narratives, educates others, and validates shared human experiences. This class acknowledges how resilience, activism, and community connection are a part of artistic expressions of grief and how art helps us define life, loss, and our place in the world.
