Legacy: How We Are Remembered and Why It Matters

Legacy is the story we leave behind — the essence of our lives, the values we carry, and the imprint that remains long after we are gone. This class explores how we want to be remembered and the many ways legacy can be shaped, preserved, and passed on.

Together, we will examine legacy from six distinct angles:

  • Preserving Heritage — how legacy activities help cultivate cultural identity
  • Communal Legacy — the continuity of family legacies across generations
  • Legacy in the Digital Age — innovative tools for preserving stories and memories
  • Passing Down Wisdom — the art of mentorship as a living legacy
  • Moral Legacy — how values, character, and everyday actions shape how we are remembered

We will also explore the value of positive legacy and how our choices contribute to the legacy we leave. Participants will also receive practical resources, activities, and ideas for shaping their own legacy as well as honoring the legacies of loved ones who have died.

The class session is approximately 1.5 hours, with time reserved for open discussion and reflection.

All class proceeds directly support the Center for Death Education’s mission.
